Concerns of the Board

  1. The over utilisation of the Olifants River System
The Irrigation Board experience that the available water for irrigation in the Loskop area has a declining tendency and the Board is concerned since the supply of the system in normal years is already exceeded. Therefore it is the Board's policy to strive for a Water Board where all users of the river system will be represented in order to control and distribute the available water.  Water can not be managed if it is not measured accurately and paid for.
  2. Pollution
The Board is also concerned about the pollution on the upper side of Loskop Dam.  Although the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry has already employed countermeasures to minimise pollution, it is the Board's opinion that there is still not being acted strictly enough.
  3. Intrusion of foreign vegetation in the river system
The Board is concerned about the foreign trees that are intruding in especially the river below Loskop Dam.  Besides the indigenous vegetation taking in the river system and resulting in losses, it is a great concern of the Board.  The eradication of such plants are however outside the jurisdiction of the Board and the Board is delighted about the attention this matter is receiving.
